Hi folks,

Your assistance needed: patron looking for the date of
publication of a song he only partially remembers. He knows the music
comes from the Toreador song; he learned it as a kid, or at least a long
time ago. The words he remembers are: "Toreadori, don't spit on the
floor-i". "Cuspidor" is also included in the lyric.

Thanks in advance.

Toreador
Don't spit on the floor
Use the cuspidor (or There's a cuspidor)
Right behind the door.

There's also an X-rated parody which can only be hinted at here:
Toreador
-- me some more
'Til your -- is sore
That's what it's for!

Enjoy - LJL

Dear Jean,

Yes, I remember that song. But not perfectly, I'm afraid. What I remember
is the lines, "Don't spit on the floor./Use the cuspidor./That's what it's for."

Gee --

I've been disappointed that everyone is leaving out the dialictical
syllables which were present in the version that I learned as a kid!!

Toreaor - a
Don't spit on the floor - a
Use the cuspidor - a
That's - a what it's for - a

(of course, I grew up in an Italian neighborhood, so maybe that explains the
version I learned!!)

When we were little kids, my brother and sister and I made up our own version: "Torea-keyhole/Don't spit on the doorknob/Use the rusty hinges/They need oiling most!"
