You may book your reservation either through MLA's travel agent Conventions
in America (800-929-4242), or through your own travel agent. If you or
your agent call American directly (800-433-1790), please refer to Starfile
#9828D. If you book through Conventions in America, please ask for Group
#568.
You can also receive a 5%-10% discount if you are traveling on another
airline, but you must book through Conventions in America in order to
receive the MLA discount.
I have been informed that there have been some inconsistencies in the
lowest fares offered through Conventions in America, specifically that
sometimes another travel agent can offer a lower fare. I have advised
Conventions in America of this situation, and they assure me that they have
access to the same information as other travel agents. The problem is that
airlines frequently change their inventory of seats available at the lowest
fare on various flights. Therefore if you call one day for a fare, it may
be higher or lower than the quote you receive if you call another day.
By all means, I urge you to shop around and try to get the lowest fare. If
you are traveling on American Airlines, please ask your agent for the MLA
discount; this way MLA will still get credit towards free travel vouchers.
However, if your agent quotes a lower fare on American or any other airline
than the fare you were quoted from Conventions in America, please inform
Conventions in America that a lower fare is available. They will be happy
to check their information again, and offer you the lowest fare that is
currently available.
Also, please let me know if you are unsatisfied with the service offered by
Conventions in America, for any reason. Thank you, and see you in Boston.

On the 12th of November, shortly after I received my registration packet
in the mail, I called United (I'm Mileage Plus) to see what the fare
was. I was told that with a 21 day purchase, coach fare roundtrip from
Los Angeles would be $605.49. After I started breathing again, I asked if
they had anything less. I was then told that if a companion traveled with
you, and was at least 62 years old, the fare would be only $388.00. I then
called Conventions in America, but they were not able to beat the $388.00
fare. Nor were they able to offer me a discount on United.
