1. The project.
The European students association, AEGEE, has prepared for 1996 the
project titled Find Your Way To and Within Open Society with the
financial help of PHARE/TACIS Democracy Program (PTDP) and the
European Union. This is one of the biggest projects ever prepared in
the history of AEGEE. Maybe the first time after the fall of Iron
Curtain students from Central and Eastern Europe (with the help of
their colleagues from the West) would cooperate in the normal way
without any political pressure since they have the common vision
about Europe and common aims.
The main objective of this project, that will take place through the
whole 1996, is to support democratic changes in Central and Eastern
Europe through strengthening students' NGOs, making students aware
about their possible role and their responsibility in the society.
Students, the decision-makers of tomorrow, will have the chance to
become more open-minded European citizens by participating in this
project. The cooperation between the students from Western and
Central & Eastern Europe creates the chance for them to share their
experience and benefit from mutual intercultural learning.

2. The Forums:

"Students Rights" in Timisoara, September 10 until September 16,
organized by AEGEE-Timisoara and AEGEE-Wien

Starting with a historical introduction about students rights and the
role of students organization during and after the monarchy this
forum deals with the actual and possible (political) influence of
students organizations today and the impact of ERASMUS/SOCRATES and
TEMPUS programs on mentality and mutual understanding of students.
Which possibilities should students mobility programs - university
exchanges and shorter stays - open? How should the education systems
be adapted to increased students' mobility adjusting titles, diplomas
and curriculums in the different states.
University professors, representatives of the European Union, of the
Tempus program, of the Council of Rectors and of other students
associations are invited to work out these topics together with the
participants. Students from the PHARE and TACIS countries and from
western Europe will participate in this Forum.

"Nationalism" in Presov, September 26 until September 29, organized
by AEGEE-Presov and AEGEE-Baja

In this Forum about 80 participants will get an introduction in
Nationalism, its history, roots, motives, manifestation, the local
and world problems. Also the relationship between majorities and
minorities like Slovak-Hungarian, Rumanian-Hungarian and Ukraine-
Russian will be discussed - speakers from each side of the conflict
are invited. Center of interest of this Forum is a comparative study
of the role of NGOs and especially students organizations in
nationalistic conflicts in Eastern and Western Europe; positions of
young people in these conflicts, differences of regional meaning of
nation and the role of young people in these conflicts will be worked
out in workshops.

"Security in Europe" in Moskva, October 10 until October 13,
organized by AEGEE Moskva in co-operation with AEGEE-Karlsruhe

This four-day-conference deals with the question how students and
their associations can contribute to peaceful co-existence in Europe
at the turn of the century. The speakers of whom three will come from
the Moskva State
University will give lectures on topics like "Growing nationalism in
Europe and in the NIS states; how can students form a common platform
against it?", "Students of all Europe must raise their voice against
wars and violence" and "The place of Russia in the European
integration". Based on the lectures the role of students and the
students organizations in the political changes in Eastern Europe,
and where their place in the new democratic societies is, will be
discussed in workshops.

generation", October 17 - October 20, in Bratislava, organized by
AEGEE-Bratislava in co-operation with AEGEE-Szeged

mass media and its impact on the individual are topics of this forum.
The access of NGOs to mass media and their influence on legislation
and freedom of the press in CEEC and NIS will be discussed in
Workshops on the bases of lectures.

"Intercultural prejudices and stereotypes: what help can youth
organizations give?", in Warszawa October 25 - October 27, organized
by AEGEE-Warszawa and AEGEE-Montpellier.

Lectures and workshops will deal with the origins of prejudices and
stereotypes, and how they can be reduced by learning more about the
other cultures and attitudes. How a youth associations like AEGEE and
other youth NGOs can fight against everyday prejudices and can
contribute to a process of mutual understanding and europeanwide co-
