Description: This librarian, as one of 4 professionals in the department,
is involved in the coordination of all aspects of the Library's
electronic reference service including evaluating software/databases,
compiling/analyzing use statistics, problem solving with vendors,
recommending policies/procedures, and organizing database/software/
hardware information for use by and instruction of department/library
staff; assists at Information Desk; performs computer searches; coordinates
connectivity and access of electronic reference center to UCHC Network
with Network Services Librarian; develops/teaches library seminars; and
everything else a reference librarian does.

This position reports to the Head of the Information Services Dept.

Required Qualifications: An MLS from an ALA-accredited Library School;
Considerable interpersonal,oral and written communication skills; experience
with health related online and CD-ROM databases; experience with microcomputer
software and hardware, especially word-processing and spreadsheet software;
understandingand use of Internet functions and tools, eg. e-mail, FTP,
Telnet, gopher, hytelnet, veronica, etc.

Preferred Qualification: Demonstrated ability to plan and teach user
education programs.

Salary/Benefits: Position if a Librarian 1 or 2 depending on qualifications.
Salary level begins at $32,133 for a 40 hour week. Excellent benefits.

About the Library: The University of Connecticut Health Center Library serves
the faculty, staff and students from Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine,
a graduate program in Public Health and the basic sciences, and Connecticut
licensed health professionals. Staffed by 17 professional librarians
and 17 support staff, the library offers a wide variety of services
ranging from the traditional to specialized services such as HEALTHNET:
the Connecticut Consumer Health Information Network.

The collection contains 168,000 volumes including 116,000 bound journals.
1,870 current subscriptions, 4,285 AV titles, and 280 computer software
programs. The Library is fully automated and is currently in the
process of migrating from the LS2000 system to NOTIS.

In 1991, the National Library of Medicine awarded the Library a 5-year
contract to serve as the Regional Medical Library for New England
in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
