Today I called the reference desk of our public library after receiving
information from my minister's wife who works for United Way. I needed
start up info on 501-C non-profit. I had been told that there was a
specialist there that she had made an appointment with. So I called. The
response was bordering on rude...perhaps even arrogant...and I doubt if the
person on the phone even realized it. It was not the specialist. I was
told that I could not even meet with her until the non profit was
formed...which was NOT the case with my friend's appointment prior to going
to work for United Way. I state this not to rant but to indicate that I
think one of the primary things Library Schools can do is simply to teach
people what they SOUND like. Just because
librarians know where to find some information and do it extremely
professionally and efficiently, that is no reason to act as if they carry
the only candle. I personally think that everyone of them should work two
weeks at WalMart at Christmas. They will be prepared to meet the REAL
world!!! Pam Salem psa...@nxs.net
