I'd like to learn more about how foreign consultants can best operate in
Japan. For example, what social or professional role or place does society
accord them? How can they best seek out and approach potential clients? Are
there any professional groups (in addition to the Kaisha in Tokyo) that meet
their needs? And - it it possible for them to approach Japanese firms (in
Japan or elsewhere) using the Internet?

My specialty is technical and business writing, which I'd like to do for
Japanese companies who need documents in the west. Are there others in this
field (either consultant or customer) who can advise?

Thanks -

I was a consultant on the Total Quality Management (TQM) field in Japan
and now in the United States. In Japan, as a foreign consultant, it may
be very difficult to survive without any recommedation from famous guru
or a company. Japanese and Japanese companies do not like consultant
position and jobs. Even if it is Japanese, it still dificult to survive.
Why don't you advertise yourself to Japanese companies located in the
United States? I think you don't have to go Japan. They need your
specialty.
