Friends, Thanks to your support letters and contributions. Unfortunately,
we are still unable to commit ourselves to a graduate student due to
lack of sufficient funds in the foundation account. We are closer
everyday, but we need your help, particularly those who have not sent in
their contribution. Please consider doing so this week.

Thanks for your input on how we go about finding the right student etc.
As people who have gone thru grad school in NA, most of you know that
time is crucial in informing the award to the student. Most universities,
incl. BGSU have made their choices in the last week of February 1994.
Since we are not certain at this time, the following process will be
followed for selecting the student for 1994-'95 year.

1. A letter was sent to all faculty (of Indian Origin & others) at BGSU
requesting that they forward the names of students from India that were
admitted to their program, but were unable to fund.

2. Once a list of such students is compiled, best three will be selected
and ranked in consultation and input from the home department.

3. The first student will be offered contract and will be given 2 weeks
time to accept the offer. In the event that the selected student is not
interested in the offer, we go to our list in (2) again.

I'm very pleased to inform that the Graduate Dean at BGSU, Dr. Katzner
agreed to provide fee waiver to the student supported by the INF. But he
would like us to commit two years of funding so that the student won't
suffer. That is where you can help us by sending your contribution soon.
Until we have the amount, I'm uncomfortable in processing the contract.

Some of you want to know why Grad asst.?

Graduate assistant is expected to work 20 hrs per week on INN/INDIA-D
related work. The foundation has no longterm commitment to this person
except two years of funding. We will be helping a student from India to
realize his/her goals of higher education as well as helping ourselves
with his/her service to smooth functioning of the network that we so
depend on.

The goals of foundation at this time are (i) get a work station and (ii)
provide asst..ship to a qualified student. Please help us in this task.

Sincerely,
K.V. Rao
