Hi Folks,

I have attempted (i.e. begun) to make available on www.cbttape.org
some XMIT-format file viewers for the PC. You can get to the proper
screen from the cbttape.org Home Page by either clicking on XMIT Manager
(on the left side) and going to the new clicker under "Other XMIT
Viewers", or by clicking on the new button (on the left side) called
Xmit Viewers (not on all the screens yet).

I am currently modifying the other screens (on the left side) to
include a button for "Xmit Viewers" but I haven't completed that job
yet. Please ALSO note the new button on the left side, which is called
ZIP Format Data.

Many people want to view CBT Tape files on the PC. We are trying
to make it easier for them.

Constructive criticisms are welcome. For now, I'm just placing the
stuff out there "as is". If you have any "install problems" please let
me know, preferably off list. I'll see what I can do.

All the best of everything to all of you. Use the stuff in good
health.

Sincerely, Sam

Is there anything for us who are not afflcted with PCs and their pervasive OS?

A few years ago, I heard of a Java implementation, UnXMIT, IIRC. I
tried it and failed. It had entanglements with such as Eclipse. Not
quite "Write once; run anywhere."

Many users wish for easier search of CBTTAPE doc. I wonder whether
breaking out File 1 into individual pages (File 6 does this), placing them
on the server, and letting Google index them would help.

I also wonder whether virtual hosts would help to target searches better
(e.g. search for "PDS86 site:docs.cbttape.org"). Heck; if that works, it
could well be applied to IBM Knowledge Center.

Thanks,
gil

I'd love XMIT viewers for Linux and eComStation (rebranded OS/2).

We normally use XMIExplorer, from www.xiframe.com, to look at .XMIT files on the PC/Windows platform finding it more useful than the often quoted XMIT Manager.

The support guys at www.xiframe.com were initially very supportive and responsive of our suggestions to improve XMIExplorer, but sadly I think that support (and perhaps the Company itself?) has vanished and we never get replies now.

We have tried to make contact many times now, through a number of routes, offering to take on the role of supporting and developing XMIExplorer for the future, but to no avail.

As it stands, XMIExplorer is excellent and we shall continue to use it, but there are a few bugs and a few extra features we would like it to ideally support.

Try it :-)

I know this thread is really old, but information on XMIExplorer is hard to find. It's been a great tool, but it's suddenly stopped working for me on Windows 11. I suspect it was something Microsoft did in the service stream, but I don't have a clue as to how to find what--much less to fix it.

When I launch XMIExplorer, the logo briefly displays and then disappears. Process Explorer shows an instance still active for it, and the .xmi file I was trying to open is "locked" by it.

Has anyone seen this & maybe has a way to fix it?

Thanks,
Wendell
