It appears to not be allowed. I found the following statement on the Web on IBM's site:

<quote>
Program Name: IBM 31-bit SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition, Version 6
Program Number: 5655-R31
Authorization for Use on Home/Portable Computer: You may not copy and use this Program on another computer without paying additional license fees.

The "problem" is that this product is licensed at "no charge". But I guess that doesn't really matter. As Robert Hayes said in Airplane! "What a pisser!" Sorry if I offended anyone with that word.

The Alphaworks version of jzos apparently may be so downloaded and used:

<quote>
You may 1) use the Program only for internal evaluation or testing purposes, and 2) make and install a reasonable number of copies, including a backup copy, of the Program to support such use. The terms of this license apply to each copy You make. You will reproduce all copyright notices and all other legends of ownership on each copy, or partial copy, of the Program.
</quote>

Basically all that I'm using is the Assembler Record Generator portion. But, given some other responses, it may be illegal to download my ADATA to my PC because embedded in the ADATA is the source code to the macros which I used to generate the program, parts of which are copyrighted by IBM. What a royal pain in the gluteus maximus!

John,

I can't speak to whether downloading ADATA is a problem, but I
wouldn't have thought that to be a problem. Best to clarify this
with IBM via an ETR.

But everything you need to run the JZOS RecordGenerator - both the
generator and the runtime is in alphaWorks and subject to the
alphaWorks license.

The product is licensed - this is not the same as freeware or public
domain or GNU.

However the product is available for public from owner website. In
practice it is meant "you may download it and use". To increase
complexity there are different codes in the countries. So, practically
it would be hard and cumbersome to sue anyone for such misuse.
