What is AWSTAPE?

I just installed Hercules 2.11. It mentions a utility for OS/390 called
AWSTAPE. I found AWSUTIL on the CBT web site. Is this the same thing? From
what little I can tell, it is. Also, is this some sort of P/390 or MP3K
thingie? I've never heard of it before.

AWSTAPE is an old P/390 driver. Mine runs under OS/2. Perhaps there are other versions or ports of the code for Linux/Unix/etc.
The AWSTAPE programs support 3420/3480/3490/etc. Ours was replaced by ISITAPE and it's clones.

BTW, I think there are *just a few* people on this list that would like to hear your opinion and other feedback vis-a-vis Hercules.

It's a P/390 utility. I don't know whether the Multiprise requires it.

AWSTAPE was a device driver on the P390 which allowed you to emulate a 3420
tape drive using an OS/2 file. No real physical device was required. We
used this to keep a copy of our product tape. When we went to cut a tape
for a customer, we simply ran a tapecopy job which copied from a virtual
tape to the real 3480 tape.

Real neat and very slick.

I have tried using this on the MP3000, but it does not work. I have submitted
e-Mail about this, but have not yet received anything back.
