Greek Romanticism
Familiar Greek landmarks as seen by western European painters in the 19th
century are currently in London. The exhibition Through Romantic Eyes features
paintings from the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece's foremost private museum,
currently closed for the building of a new wing. As well as the more familiar
paintings of the classical sites of Athens when they were part of a rural
landscape, and Edward Lear's Corfu, this is a chance to see how holiday
familiars such as Poros, Ithaca, Patras, Parga, Aegina or Lefkas looked 150
years ago. It is at the Hellenic Centre (16018 Paddington St, London W1) until
March 27, 10am-5pm daily, addmission ^3 (concessions 1.50, members free).
