Hi All,

I have a question that I hope somebody on this list may be able to answer.
Two of my computers are connected with a null modem cable (for gaming, so
maybe this isn't totally off sub) and their parallel ports both feed to a
data switch to allow printer sharing. One of the computers is a P233 DOS
box and the other is a P2 Celeron 333 Win95 box.

My question is this: I am thinking about getting one of those new 250 MB
parallel port external Zip drives. If I connect it to the outlet of the
data switch, will I be able to use it with either computer (one at a
time obviously)? If I have both computers configured for the Zip drive,
will I get errors on boot up from a computer that can't see the Zip
drive?

My primary concern is with the Windows computer. Will the OS go nuts if a
drive comes and goes from time to time? I do have an external parallel Zip
drive on an old P75 DOS box at work and it seems to be pretty unconcerned
about whether or not the Zip drive is actually connected and will only give
me an error message if I try to log to that drive and it's not there
because I've got it connected to another machine. I am more than a bit
concerned that Windows will be a lot less understanding.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions and for your tolerance of
an off sub.
