Hi fellow gamers,

There's been a recent thread here about writing game programs (Darren, etc.
;-D) I happened to come across this info about a new book on the subject
at the Fastest Games News site (http://www.fgnonline.com/).

"Become A Game Star

PC: Do you want to be the next Sid Meier? A new
book from Macmillan may give you chance to get
started on the road to being an all-star games
programmer. Entitled the Game Programming
Starter Kit 3.0, it includes text on introductory game
programming and design as well as a variety of tools
to enable PC users to get some experience. It
includes an introductory edition of Microsoft's
Visual C++ 6.0 and the Genesis 3D Software
Developers Kit. There is another book included
called Game Design: Secrets of the Sages where
Meier gives advice to all would-be designers.
Thanks to PC.IGN."

The Game Programming Starter Kit 2.0 has gotten pretty low reviews from the
ones I've read due to the lack of continuity between all the apps it
contains and the documentation. Also the reviews said that all the apps and
the like can be gotten for free off the Internet. But one review mentioned
that if one can overlook these and is ready to put a lot of hard work and
extra research and resources into it the Kit can be a great starting point.
However I haven't read any reviews about the 3.0 version.
