To the best of my knowledge NFPA has a standard regarding helmets color.
Black = Probationary
Yellow = Firefighter
Red = lower line Officer
White = Chief Officer

Well, For starters I think the following is pretty standard:
Chiefs=White
Captains=Red
Engineers-Firefighters=Yellow
Paramedics=Blue
In my department, a FF has aYellow helmet w/ Black stripe and an
Engineer has a Yellow helmet w/ Red stripe....this is a local marking
only.

My Dept uses blue reflective tape, and a paramedic sticker on a helmet to
signify med. training. This goes on regardless of rank. I am a Captain
paramedic. There are no blue helmet paramedics because all ours are also
firefighters.
For my vol. dept, I am an ALS responder only (not a FF) because I am also
on the Board of Directors. That Helmet is blue...

In the City of Los Angeles the following colors are used:
Chief Officers - White
Captains - Orange
Firefighters - Yellow
Paramedics - Blue
Fire Cause Investigators & Inspectors - Red
Member's assignments are designated by the color of the numbers on the side
of the helmet:
Truck - Red
Engine - Blue
Chiefs - Red, with Division Chiefs having a D before the number and Battalion
Chiefs having a B.
The County follows the same color scheme, except for the Paramedic helmets,
which are not used.

I like this! I guess there isn't alot of yellow reflecters in the station
huh!?!?
<< Slime (Lime) Green = hazmat >>
This sounds dangerous, if the hazmat crew gets involved with radioactive
stuff they won't know if the helmet is really glowing or if it just looks
that way. :-)

<< red stripe in cross over top of any - junior >>
White helmet w/ red stripe or cross would be a junior chief or at least they
think they're chief right? I know of a lot of people who should have one of
these helmets.

These colors are not standard here in Maine. At least in the Portland
Area. Black helmets , ( leather of course ) with black shields for FFand
White shields for Lt. and Capt.. Cheifs have White helmets with white
shields.
Black turnout gear is fairly standard for the area, some dept's issue
yellow gear for their FF's with Chiefs getting white gear.
