*Call for information exchange from Beau Fly Jones, senior researcher,
North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL), Regional Policy
Information Center*

This is a request for information about the effects of technology on
learning and schooling. **Persons or agencies that provide information
will be sent the document resulting from this research, on request.**

Specifically, NCREL is conducting a review of research on the effectiveness
of the following technologies:

1. computer (CAI, Simulations, Tools, including knowledge representation)
2. multi-media
3. Internet
4. two-way interactive video
5. traditional distance learning with two-way audio and one-way video

The analysis is due in several weeks, so there *is* a time crunch. We are
looking especially for approaches/programs that:

--have results relating to traditional measures of effectiveness:
e.g., standardized tests, grades

--have been effective in diverse contexts other than the initial
study (different grade levels, urban/rural, minorities, limited English
proficiency, male/female, at risk)

--demonstrate how the approach/program prepares students for
living in the 21st century

--have the capability to enhance school improvement, the learning
environment, or students' lives

Our final report will be in two parts:

1. a brief that summarizes survey findings according to the four
measures of effectiveness above (about 10 pages with executive
summary). We may develop a longer paper after March 10th.

2. mini-profiles of successful programs that are robust with
respect to effectiveness in different contexts (at the most 2 per
category at this time, perhaps more later)

We would deeply appreciate any references (books, articles, etc.) or
names of people to call that would be of use here. Also, please be as
detailed as possible with the names or initials and surnames of
authors, title of publication or journal, year, location of publisher,
publisher's name, and page numbers for journal articles.

In return, we will be happy to supply the results. Thank you in
advance for your help.

Beau Fly Jones
