want therefore to have the widest possible dissemination of this

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION
College of Education, Michigan State University

The Department of Teacher Education is seeking applications for the position
of Department Chair. The candidate chosen will be expected to hold academic
rank with tenure.

The department is one of four in the College of Education, with 64 tenure-
track FTE faculty. The department offers both five-year and post-BA teacher
certification programs; two MA programs, in Curriculum and Teaching and in
Literacy Instruction; and a PhD program in Curriculum, Teaching, and
Educational Policy. Faculty play a prominent role in a variety of research
and service programs, including several national research centers and
established partnerships with schools.

The department is seeking a person with the qualifications and experiences to:

(1) provide academic and scholarly leadership to the department, and maintain
one's own teaching and scholarship;

(2) facilitate teaching, research, and service activities;

(3) exercise leadership and effective management practices;

(4) facilitate and support faculty participation in department decision-
making;

(5) pursue ways of enhancing diversity across the department;

(6) facilitate the department's ongoing review and clarification of its
goals, directions, and programs;

(7) provide leadership in both developing and executing college policy.

Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, current vita, and
samples of scholarly writing; letters of references may be solicited at a
later time. Review of applications will begin on March 15. Applications will
be accepted after that date until a suitable pool of candidates is identified.

The preferred starting date for the 12-month position is August 1, 1994.
Salary is negotiable and will be based on the candidate's qualifications,
accomplishments, and level of experience. Women and members of minority
groups are especially encouraged to apply.
