Jacquie:
Have you tried loading the following software on it to make sure you don't
have spyware/malware or viruses on it?
Failing that, have you considered the computer--if it's a laptop, you're not
alone experiencing problems with flashing screen--is defective and should be
sent back?

If you're past the time you can do that, try loading a completely different
operating system on it--use UbuntuLinux 9.10 Live CD (which you can put on a
1 gig USB flash drive rather than CD, faster that way)--and see if you
experience the problem. That would isolate the issue to software rather than
hardware.

If hardware, well, that's the way it goes unfortunately...write a blog entry
and then keep writing about it with video and images so that everyone knows
what is going on the Web, especially HP.

Here's an excerpt from an article I wrote:

The damage cased left by viruses and spyware to your Windows Registry can
be catastrophic. To fix those problems, you need to take advantage of two
tools that will help you 1) Uninstall undesirable programs completely and 2)
Clean up your Windows registry.

1. *Revo Uninstaller* - Some times, you need a program that will
completely uninstall a program, including cleaning up your Windows registry.
This program accomplishes that and ensures complete removal of a program.
Get the portable version online at http://www.revouninstaller.com/
2. *CCleaner* - This invaluable tool actually cleans up your computer's

Jacquie,

I would suggest uninstalling the software you added, one application at a
time. See if each uninstall makes any difference. Another thought is
that there may be an electrical problem with your house or office wiring.
I know you said that HP Tech Support was able to recreate the problem, but
it might be worth a look. Sometimes a wall outlet is not grounded properly
or the area has power fluctuations.

Good luck and let us know if you find a solution,

-Alix
