I am looking for a web site that will allow my 4th and 5th grade students
to build basic web pages with no HTML coding, or very little. I have used
"project poster" before and it is an OK product. I would like to find
something that allows a bit more creative freedom. A WYSIWYG style builder
would be perfect and free would be ideal. Is there anything out there
like this?
Thanks for your help,

Nvu (www.nvu.com) sounds like exactly what you are looking for. It's
available for both Windows and Mac platforms.

Hi,
Take a look at Nvu. It's not an online website builder but it's very
cool. It's open source and runs on PC and Mac. According to the
website, it has many of the same features as Front Page and Dreamweaver.
Thanks,

There are WYSIWYG editors built into several content management
systems, but I'm not aware of any that will host pages for free. An
alternative would be to try a blog (freely available from edublogs.org
and its sister sites) or a wiki (also freely available for educators
at wikispaces.com).
On the software side, check out the following (*all* are cross-platform):
NVU: http://www.nvu.com
OpenOffice.org has a pretty nice HTML import/export feature
Abiword (abisource.com)
