Hi,
I am exploring the idea of moving to Moodle as our LMS. If you have had
experience running Moodle at a district or university level, I would appreciate
a chance to talk with you off-list about Moodle, configuration, tech support,
reliability, modules, etc. If anyone would like to showcase their
institution's Moodle site, please let me know
as well.
Thanks!

(sniff, sniff:-) But why not on-list? Some of us would value the chance
to lurk on a non-sugar-coated talk about such software.

Fast fact: Since 1984 the state of California has built 21 new prisons --
and 1 new college.
Over the last year we have migrated from Blackboard (hosted on our campus) to
Moodle (also hosted on our campus). The short version of the story is that
* we have found Moodle to be just as reliable or more so than our Blackboard
installation was,
* faculty are using Moodle in more active ways than they were using
Blackboard,
* students preferred Moodle over Blackboard 2-3 to 1 when surveyed about
different features/functions of the LMS,
* the open architecture of Moodle has allowed us to augment our LMS with
add-on modules from the Moodle community,
* we are beginning to take advantage of Moodle's open architecture to
customize the LMS and integrate it with our other learning resources and
applications,
* we can allocate the licensing costs we would have spent on Blackboard to
other instructional technology projects,
* our back-end support costs (server administration, etc) is equal to or
less than what support we needed to provide to maintain Blackboard,
* our user support needs are probably a little less than they were for
Blackboard as Moodle is a very user-friendly system,
* we have more control over our upgrade strategy and pathway.
You can finds slides from a presentation on our migration from Blackboard to
Moodle, including the data on student preferences and faculty
uses/requirements, at:

I would HIGHLY encourage you to check out the free LMS - www.edu20.org.
We've been using it for two years and we love it...
