The NUTN 2005 Planning Committee invites you to nominate award winners in
the following categories:

* NUTN 2005 Research Paper Award
* NUTN 2005 Shirley Davis Award of Excellence in Teleconferencing
* Outstanding NUTN Distance Education Innovation Award 2005

NUTN 2005 RESEARCH PAPER AWARD
==============================
The National University Telecommunications Network (NUTN) is seeking
nominations for the annual research paper award. The Theme of the 2005
Annual Distance Learning Event is “Benchmarking Quality in Distance
Learning.” Research papers nominated for this award should represent an
actual research study including the following components:

1. A clearly articulated and testable hypothesis or problem statement;
2. An introduction with a strong theoretical base and review of relevant
literature;
3. Clearly explained samples and sampling methods;
4. Follow sound research protocol, whether in keeping with quantitative
methods (e.g., experimental or quasi-experimental design) or qualitative
methods (e.g., focus groups or text analysis); and
5. Present findings and recommendations in keeping with the research
methodology.

The results and/or recommendations of the study must demonstrate a
contribution to our understanding of the principles, practices, and
approaches that lead to improved student learning. The findings of the
research should be applicable to the distance learner. A case study of a
single entity will not be accepted as an acceptable research method.

The recipient of the Research Award will make a presentation of the paper
at NUTN 2005 in San Francisco, CA, June 11-13, 2005, and will receive a
complimentary registration and a cash award of $100 USD. Papers nominated
should be submitted electronically by February 4, 2005. The Award recipient
will be notified by March 4, 2005. Guidelines are below.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A Full Research Paper, accompanied by an (25-50 word)

NUTN 2005 SHIRLEY DAVIS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN TELECONFERENCING

The National University Telecommunications Network (NUTN) is seeking
nominations for the NUTN 2005 Shirley Davis Award of Excellence in
Teleconferencing. NUTN invites nominations or applications for
consideration by the SHIRLEY DAVIS TELECONFERENCE AWARDS COMMITTEE for
award(s) to be presented at the 2005 annual event in San Francisco, CA. The
NUTN 2005 Shirley Davis Award of Excellence in Teleconferencing competition
recognizes the work of individuals and institutions in providing
teleconferences of a superior nature. The two essential elements of a
successful application/nomination for consideration in this award process
are the ability of the applicant to clearly state the objectives of the
teleconference and documentation of the evaluation process that assures the
results of the teleconference satisfies the objectives.

Teleconferences will be judged by the following criteria:
1. Statement of objectives
2. Documentation of evaluation effectiveness
3. Content/methodology/interactivity effectiveness and innovation
4. Technical production/quality/innovation and appropriateness for
objectives
5. Administrative issues such as numbers served (sites and participants),
client satisfaction, fiscal viability, and the possibility of replicable
and transferable techniques and methods.

Each submission should be organized to correspond to the sections described
in the previous paragraph. Submissions should be limited to no more than 5
pages, typewritten, and additional materials are limited to three
attachments including tapes or other evidence of production. Full contact
information for the individual submitting the application must be provided.
Submission deadline for consideration is February 4, 2005. The Award
recipient will be notified by March 4, 2005.

OUTSTANDING NUTN DISTANCE EDUCATION INNOVATION AWARD 2005

The National University Telecommunications Network (NUTN) is seeking
nominations for the Outstanding NUTN Distance Education Innovation Award
2005. The NUTN Distance Education Innovation Award is presented to an
individual or groups of individuals representing a member or non-member
institution that has developed an innovative program or practice that
contributes to the field of distance education. The award for innovation
may be in relation to a new program, an ongoing program, student or support
services, pedagogy, faculty development and support or technology.

Judging of materials will be based on the following criteria:
1. How effectively the innovation responds to a stated need
2. How the innovation advances the practice of distance learning or
education
3. How the innovation has a broader application and can be duplicated by
other providers
4. How the innovation is cost-effective
5. How the innovation can demonstrate a high level of student and faculty
satisfaction
6. How the innovation utilizes a new technology or an older technology in a
new way
7. How the innovation incorporates a new pedagogy

Each submission should be organized to correspond to the sections described
in the previous paragraph. Submissions should be limited to no more than 5
