We are in the process of purchasing probes for the science
department and have narrowed it down to two companies --Pasco
and Venier.
What are your experiences? Any recommendations?
Problems?

Thank you for your assistance.

My science teachers have fallen for Pasco probes. Ranging from Middle
School to AP Physics these teachers like the price/variety of different
probes (they can cheaply purchase a different probe w/o investing in a new
package), easy learning curve - intuitive, plug and play capability, and
finally the fact that our Pasco rep, Dave Small - a former Science
teacher- came to our school twice to provide free professional
development, and he was very good. We have used them for over a year now
with no "breaks".

Hi Dan,
Last spring, we posted a teacher review of Pasco's scientific probe and a
related activity kit. The teacher's loved it. You can find that review at

We had reps from both companies come out and decided on Vernier. To tell you
the truth I don't remember all the reasons but we have been extremely
pleased with the customer support at Vernier. It has been excellent!!!

In my opinion the costomer representative service is the most important
reason to select between Pasco and Vernier. My school has been using
the Pasco probes for a long time, 10+ yrs, and we have been happy with
the service and the products. I looked into using Venier last year
because we were looking to start up a new set of probes and I thought
the LabPro line would help use integrate our curriculum with the math
department because we could use calculators and laptop computers. We
chose to continued to buy Pasco, but I was very impressed with the help
and service provided by Venier (if we didn't already have Pasco, I'm not
sure that we wouldn't have chosen Venier).

I would encourage you to look at the prepackaged bundles, the writen
labs that are available for the probes, and get to know the customer
service representative. Which ever company strikes you as being the
most helpful will probably be the best company to buy from since both
make very good products that have been in the classroom for more than 15
years.
