Announcement for LAW 774 -- Chinese Law
This course provides an overview of the legal system of the People's
Republic of China, with due attention to historical development,
political organization, and economic conditions. Specific areas of law
which will be studied are constitutional law, regulation of the
judiciary and the legal profession, criminal law and procedure (with a
focus on crimes against state security, drug trafficking, and white
collar crime), and labor and employment law.
There are no prerequisites for the course. Background in Chinese
language, history and/or political science is helpful but not necessary.
The final grade will be based on answers to study questions, a closed
universe research paper, and an open-book final exam. Auditors are
permitted with the permission of the instructor.
Distance learning students are expected to participate at least once a
week in a threaded discussion group which will include on-campus
students. Distance learning students are permitted to submit all written

Syracuse University is pleased to offer "International Human Rights"
on-line this spring semester through Syracuse University Continuing
Education (SUCE) OnLine. This course examines the conceptual and
institutional foundations of international human rights law, including
north-south conflicts, cultural relativism, economics rights, role of
non-
governmental organizations, and international criminal tribunals. A
seminar-
length research paper and regular participation in class discussion are
required.
Although the course highlights the role of law in both the suppression
and promotion of rights, post-undergraduate students with backgrounds,
experiences and interests in disciplines other than law are welcome to

algebra, probability, and the mathematics of personal finance. Since
the entry of modern computers in to the business world, a variety of
topics,
which are often grouped together under the heading of Finite or Discrete
mathematics, have become to play an ever-increasing role among the
mathematical
tools employed in the work place. Three of these topics -- linear
algebra,
probability, and math of finance, are discussed. Students who have not
used
their mathematical skills for some time should take a basic introductory
mathematics
course to review of some of the basics of mathematical thinking. Each
student
