Stats groups reorganization

The following Usenet newsgroups have been created, and should appear
at your site soon. Please subscribe to them when they appear, or if
they do not appear in your Usenet feed, ask your local administrator
to see about getting them.

comp.soft-sys.sas
comp.soft-sys.spss
sci.stat.consult
sci.stat.edu
sci.stat.math

After allowing 2 weeks for the new groups to propagate throughout Usenet,
the mailing list gateways now attached to these "old" groups

bit.listserv.sas-l
bit.listserv.spssx-l
bit.listserv.stat-l
bit.listserv.edstat-l

will be switched to the first 4 of the 5 new newsgroups above. The 4
old groups will cease to receive postings from mailing list subscribers.

Until then, those participants who use Usenet to follow these groups
may want to cross-post their articles between the old and new groups,
or at least subscribe to both.

After an additional waiting period, a control message will be sent out
to remove the 4 old groups listed here, plus sci.math.stat. This will
complete the reorganization of the statistics newsgroups smoothly and
without interrupting any of the traffic.
