As a product of one of those Geology departments with really neat hall displays,
I think the key to a successful presentation is get your point across fast. Most
students will only look at it while they are waiting for the next class (5-10
mins) and most persons on campus may only catch a fleeting glimpse (I seem
to recall the originator of this thread was enroute). If you
want to spark interest in math/stats as a career present something
familiar and expand upon it. Something along the lines of "How people lie with
statistics" or "Bad measurements lead to poor reasoning" might be more
appropriate. I think like pretty pictures of gold mines, fault zones and
volcanoes these are attention grabbers and yet convey a valuable message
to a general audience. The hardest part about designing a display is defining
your audience.
