First of all Henry Turkel did not use DMSO Amino Acid Therapy. I personally
spoke with Ilse Nusbaum (the nurse that worked with him). I also read his
book and viewed his film. He was aware of Weinstein's work in South
America. Turkel was not approved by the FDA because he had a methodology
not a specific formula. Each child had a nutritional regime tailored to
their specific metabolism. My opinion is that the Sierra Clinic
overexagerates their claims. Turkel claimed that DS children were educable.
And that their overall development and health could be improved with
nutritional intervention. If you want information on DMSO amino acid
therapy contact Stanley W. Jacob,MD, Oregon Sciences Health Sciences
University, (503) 494-8474, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR
97201- 3098. You can get an information packet by calling his office. He is
much more honest about the results and has treated many DS children with
this approach. Stanley Jacobs also has a web site re: DMSO
One call also order the book by Henry Turkel and the VCR from Autism
Research Institute , 4182 Adams Avenue, San Diego CA 92116 Dr. Bernard
Rimland knew Dr. Turkel (619) 281-7165 FAX (619) 563-6840
Dr. Rimland is the Director of the Autism Research Institute, And for those
who don't know Dr. Henry Turkel is deceased. Dr. Turkel was the forerunner
of practicing Nutritional Intervention in D.S. and other disorders. Dr.
Franz Schmid (also deceased) practiced Nutritional Intervention and Cell
Therapy. He was from Germany. For information on cell therapy contact New
Hope Association Inc. Micki Kluge, Pres , 1945 Pine View Ave. Va Beach, VA
23456, (757) 427-5552. Another cell therapy contact is Dr. Samuel Grimes
(704) 898-6711, Life Quest Association POB 2426, Banner Elk, NC 28604-
going through Life Quest is expensive ($6000-year). The least expensive is
either New Hope or Bridge Research Foundation, 5 Ashford Drive, Nepean,
Ontario, Canada K2H 6V4, Molly Bruce (613) 828-9032
