While I chortled at Meg's eight rules for signings--Dom Perignon for the
author, vigorous milling about so as to create an impression of large
attendance, soft cushions etc. etc.--I'm a bit confused. Don't mystery fans
everywhere do this??? If Meg could see her way clear to visiting us here in the
Great Lakes region for a signing (hint, hint), I'm sure she'd find that these
rules are standard operating procedure for ALL mystery author signings here.
Authors are wined and dined here. Or at least beered and cheered.

BOUCHERCON BIDS. Does anyone know what cities are bidding for upcoming
Bouchercons? I've heard that Philly is bidding for it in 1998 and that
Milwaukee would like it in 1999, but are there any other cities in the running?

CANADIAN. As an avid hockey fan, I have probably heard thousands of radio
interviews with hockey players. More than oat and aboat or "eh," the most
telling feature of the accent, I think, is how the word "organization" is
pronounced. If it's pronounced, organ-EYE-zation, you can tell where the player
is from. Almost every interview contains a "the Maple Leafs [insert other team
name] are a great organ-eye-zation."
