For those tax-deducting authors...

I had a great time at Malice over the weekend, chatting with some
favorite authors I have met before, and meeting some new ones. And to
all those authors, I wanted to alert you to the fact that the IRS is
cracking down on those deductions you take to do research. Here is a
quote from the front page of the May 5,1999 issue of the Wall Street
Journal:

"A man deducted cash payments to Nevada prostitutes as research for a
book he was writing. The IRS said no, and Tax Court Judge William M.
Fay agreed, describing the deductions as 'so personal in nature as to
preclude their deductibility'."

I wasn't aware that they gave out receipts...
