Malice banquet

So far no one's mentioned one of the more peculiar events at the
Malice banquet - this year everyone *had* to sign up for a table, but
somehow a number of us were told when we went to the table that
"these seats are taken"...I know several checked with the person in
charge of the lists (sorry, I've forgotten her name!), found we were
correct, but decided we didn't want to sit with people who didn't
want us! I ended up sitting with 8 others (the tables sat 9 people)
who had all been "dumped"...and we decided we had better seat mates
than we would have originally. I *still* can't believe one of these
people was Charles Mathes, who otherwise I probably would not have
met! Another couple turned out to be from not only the town next to
mine in MA, but also the town where I taught high school for many
years. (No, I didn't have them as students...they came from
elsewhere!)
I was delighted to see Carol Harper in her "Saudi Gaudy" dress as Fan
Guest of Honor...and those who didn't get to see her husband
Charlie's interesting leg tan don't know what they missed! Now if
only he'd get transferred someplace a little closer to "normal"
civilization so we could see Carol more frequently.
