We are a small school that is on CSLG. We also have a 4300 with no TK50.
I use the annual arrival of the CSLG TK50 tape as an opportunity to visit
one of my neighboring universities. It's a simple matter of copying the
savesets from the TK50 to a 9-track tape, and that takes care of things
for another year.

Yes, it's a hassle, but with the TK50 limitation, that's about all a body
can do.

We are a small school with a small VAX 4000/300 with no TK-50 drive. We
are told that CSLG license PAKs are distributed ONLY using TK-50 media. I
am wondering if other schools have the same problem and how they are
addressing it.

We are in the same boat too, about the only thing I can do is give it to our
local DEC PM guy and have him transfer it to a 9-track tape. Sure would be
nice if we had a choice on this one.

I always fail to see the point of telling people with a problem that
they shouldn't try to solve the problem. What's wrong with trying to
see if DEC could be willing to supply the CSLGs on more than one kind
of media?

They'll never know that people want it that way unless someone asks, right?

We here have a tk50 but since the CSLG only arrives once a year, it should
be no big deal to get some friendly VAX manager at a remote site to copy it
to some other media for you. Anyone who is really in a bind can ask me, I'll
be happy to do it.

sure, getting it on a TK50 is a limit, but this tape is received
*ONCE A YEAR*. I can hardly believe that your local DEC office
couldn't help convert it to a 9-track (or whatever) for this type
of thing. Sure, if this was a MONTHLY update or such I could
see the point of complaining, but once a YEAR? call your sales
rep. He'll crank out a new tape for you.
