DARS PROGRAMMING
Miami University is seeking to fill two programming positions in its Degree
Audit Reporting System (DARS) project area. DARS is responsible for the
design, development, implementation, enhancement, training, and support of
a computer software package used by over 150 North American colleges and
universities to assist students in successfully meeting their graduation
requirements. DARS software was originally developed for the IBM mainframe
CICS environment and has recently been ported to the client/server
environment. We have written DARS to run on multiple server platforms
(UNIX; AIX; HP-UX; Solaris; NT) using several relational databases (Oracle,
Sybase, Informix, SQL server) and using a 32-bit Windows client (written in
PowerBuilder) for data maintenance. The Course Applicability System (CAS)
web interface supports an institution's current or transfer students in
their self-determination of how courses will transfer and apply to their
academic program(s). CAS is currently being installed in post secondary
schools in Ohio and Arizona with other installations planned nationwide.
Programming skills sought to match our client/server environment as well as
from database administration, C, C++, SQL, Perl, CGI, Java, and COBOL.
Bachelor's degree; good communication, organizational, and analytical
skills; ability to work cooperatively with numerous constituencies;
proficiency with personal computer and related tools. Successful
applicants will not be expected to have all identified skills, but will be
able to demonstrate a good mix and a willingness and ability to learn
others. Limited travel.
Compensation includes salary dependent on background and a benefit package
including health-care, dental, life, accidental death and dismemberment,
and long-term disability insurance coverage; educational fee waiver for
