The University of Alabama invites applications and nominations for
the position of Director, Seebeck Computer Center. Seebeck
Computer Center houses both academic and administrative
computing. The University seeks candidates who have
demonstrated an ability to interact constructively with students,
faculty, and staff; who have developed innovative solutions to
problems, who are sympathetic to student, faculty, and
administrative needs, and who have a commitment to providing
user-friendly services to the university community.
The successful candidate will be an articulate, dynamic, highly
organized and committed individual with significant academic or
administrative experience and is capable of providing strong
leadership in a changing environment. Experience with both
academic and administrative computing is preferred. Specifically,
a minimum of five years’ experience in progressively responsible
management of a computing center is required. The candidate
should have substantial experience with management of either
academic or administrative computing, and should have
demonstrated skills in management of resources, and a thorough
knowledge of hardware and software as related to a rapidly evolving
technical and administrative environment. Master’s degree is
required; Ph.D. preferred.
The Director is responsible for planning and directing a full array of
administrative and operational activities and for collaborating and
coordinating with other academic and administrative officers on
campus. The Director will be responsible for Systems
Development, Systems and Networking, User Services, Security,
Operations, and Business Machine Services. The Director will be
responsible for the administration of both academic and
administrative computing.
The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Information
Services, Office of Academic Affairs. Salary is competitive and
dependent on qualifications. Anticipated appointment date is
spring of 1999.
