Hi, I don't know too much about this, but a friend of mine uses this
technique a lot. When ever he has a piece that has cracked and he really
likes the piece, he uses gold leaf. The crack really stands out, but for
some reason it really looks good. I haven't been brave enough to try it
yet. Jennifer in Alpine, Tx HOTTER THEN $#*+ Here today!

You should be able to first fill any cracks with auto body putty
(Bondo). A tip with Bondo, there is a stage during the setup of it where
is can be trimed with a sharp edge very easily. Otherwise you need to
sand down any excess when it has hardened.

There is a beautiful example in the Freer Gallery/Smithsonian Institution
of a gold-mended bowl. Perhaps someone there could help dig up some
information on the technique. You can find some addresses/phone numbers
through the web site at http://www.smithsonian.com. If you don't have
web access, email me and I'll try to help.
