So Sasha, i guess i'll have to step up and get one of those big ol', fat,
"fuck you's" you so kindly offered.

>All I can say is, how a person can stay sane in this world?
Well, i think i'm doing fine so far.
>How can we walk around with this stuff in our heads and remain sane?
I really don't ponder on decapitated heads and other such blood and gore in
my spare time. If it's giving you a hard time trying to remain sane, then
may i suggest you do not think about it so much?
> How can a parent send their kid off to school knowing that they could...be

Well, as i don't have any kids i thankfully don't have to worry about this,
but i do know that at the schools in this area a policeman is kept on campus
at all times, a SRO, or State Resource Officer, an obvious deterrant to
violent activity on campus.

I can't seem to see that violence in movies and film has anything whatsoever
to do with it.
TV and films haven't been around forever, yet blood and violence have. Jack
the Ripper didn't go on a killing spree because the tv told him to now did
he? My guess is he was fucked up from the start.
Just think, if you DO start censoring everything, then all the people who
are doing these crimes because of what they see on tv or movies(as you seem
to think that's why they do this, or at least that's what i gathered from
your post) will actually have to use their imagination!!! just imagine
what fucked up things they'll conjure up then!! As for raising kids and
all, well, if/when i ever have any, I sure as hell try not to raise them to
be a closeminded, shrewd, Trying to keep them from seeing
violence/blood/sex, all of which they'll probably end up seeing anyway, and
then having them possibly resent me for trying to 'protect' them. God, the
day all movies and tv programs are censored, or not allowed to be shown
because of their content.. is the day that this country will forget one of
it's founding principles.... freedom. (come to think of it, some of this
is already started to happen)
>And you know what? A big ol' fat 'fuck you' to anyone who tries to tell me
>that violent images have nothing to do with this kind of shit.
I don't think violent images have anything to do with causing this.
As far as what kristen said, and about the shooting in denver......
I'm just loving how dumb people are. "We saw three people get shot," she
said. "They were just shooting. They didn't care who they shot. They were
just shooting." Oh is that so? How does she know that? She just fuckin'
assumes.. meanwhile on the news they're saying the shooters were after kids
who played sports, people in white hats, and minority students... and
something was said about these 'outcasts' being made fun of last year..
Maybe i'm the one that's insane but i'm not all that sympathetic. Kids in
school are just pathetic and get off of harassing other students... let them
get shot a few times, maybe they'll learn they're not the center of the
universe and can't just go around pissing everyone off to make them feel
good about themselves. I'm still waiting for people i know to get their ass
beat so hard so they'll wake up and realize that they are not as cool and
untouchable as they think
"A student named James who called a local TV station said he was locked
inside a classroom and he could hear a lot of crying and screaming out in
the hallway, along with shouted threats." God i hate screaming.. if i was a
terrorist or something the first people i would hurt would be the
screamers... it accomplishes nothing. Do not scream..
"At least 18 people injured; other reports say as many as 19." Umm.. 18.. as
many as 19!!!.. Hehe i just think this statement was funny how they make 19
seem like 50 more than 18.

Not a bad idea, since I'm going to respond to this to. Okay, here's throwing my
hat in the ring. I'll leave out my opinions about gun control, since they don't
fit here.

IMHO, I do *not* believe that society should fall back on something as weak as
violence in images. The USA is not the only country with particularly violent
cinema. I've seen things *much* worse from international cinema than I have ever
seen here. Japanese animation, a *huge* staple of my video collection (as in, at
least 70%) has a great amount of series and movies that are extremely violent
and graphic. Animation may not have the same effect as live action, but it can
certainly imagine more violence than the average action film. Graphic violence
has been a part of film for a while now, and I have seen quite a bit of it.
Some of which has even disturbed me, and I have a high level of tolerance for
just about anything in films. I have quite a temper myself, courtesy of my
mother, who has a heckuva one, but I have never considered actually harming
another human being just for the sake of doing it. I've seen enough violence in
my life, and I can separate reality from the fantasy. However, there are some
people on this earth who cannot. They have real problems, and they are problems
that were not caused by what they've seen on the screen (big or little). They
may get ideas from it, but those ideas would have been thought of just as well
without any help. Unfortunatly, there are some people who are just disturbed,
and I do believe that some people have the capacity to be evil and cruel, no
matter how well they were raised by their parents. Censoring violence will not
help. Ghastly crimes have always existed, and Ian's comment about Jack the
Ripper demonstrates that horrid crimes have always been around, and always will
be around, regardless of whether or not killers get their ideas from TV or
films. I think the problems with violence in the USA go deeper than the images
portrayed on screen. Many have just used the entertainment media as an excuse
for deeper problems (such as the incident, years ago, where a couple of kids
killed themselves and heavy metal music was blamed. It took people far too long
to look into the deeper problems of unhappiness theses kids were harboring.). I
won't go into the justice system in this country or the question of the death
penalty, I'll keep this discussion to the screen.
[diatribe on the cruelness of high schoolers snipped]
Now, *this* disturbed me. I was never very fond of high school myself, but that
had more to do with the fact that I was bounced to 3 different ones due to
moving. While I will agree that teens can be cruel in the way they treat each
other, self-esteem begins at home, in the same place parents should be teaching
their kids that violence is wrong (and, for heaven's sake, keeping the guns
*well* locked up!!). Giving a teen confidence in him/herself gives that teen
the self-esteem needed to guard against the jibes of less-secure teens who would
put down others to better themselves. Everyone has had to deal with this problem
in their life, the solution is definitely not to use your fellow classmates as
target practice to teach them a lesson! Unfortunatly, when you went off on this
subject, you negated your entire defense of cinematic violence.
And so you have my $0.02.
