My husband just told me that he got a call from his Mom in Knoxville, TN &
she told him that Charles Stanley's wife is divorcing him -- does anybody
know anything about this?

My brother is a minister in Atlanta, and knows Dr. Stanley.
I visited with him on the phone the day before yesterday (Tuesday).
Unfortunately, This is not a rumor, it is true. According to Bill,
my brother, Dr. Stanley is still wanting to reconcile and work
it out, but, at this point, to no avail.

God Bless you all!

Cindy,
there was an article in the _Atlanta Journal and Constitution_
last Sunday which said that the Anna Stanley had filed for a
divorce. The couple have been separated for a year, according
to the article. I believe it said that they had changed the
petition to a legal separation, and that Dr. Stanley is seeking
a reconciliation.

It was really hard to believe. It grieved me badly to hear it. But
it reminds me that even "giants" for God are not immune from
tribulation and trial. When they stand so tall in the pulpit, I
tend to look up to them and think that they must be so close to
God that their lives are easy. Sadly, times like these are
reminders that no one is exempt from the attacks of the devil.

I would like to request that CHRISTIA remember the Stanley's in
prayer.

In Christ.........Mark

Mark: Thank you for reminding us to pray wholeheartedly for the Stanley
family. When I first heard this rumor earlier today on another list it
was from a poster with a callous attitude which made the news even more
harsh. Being a doubting Thomas, I went to the library and looked in the
Sunday edition of the Atlanta newspaper but didn't actually find an article
but just a blurb. Does anyone know more about the article: what date,
section, etc? Thanks, Marci Hendrix@Rhodes (any verses of encouragement
would be gratefully appreciated - this news is a major bummer to me).

Dr. Charles Stanley is the pastor of the First Baptist Church
of Atlanta, Georgia. He is very well known through his television
and radio ministry called "In Touch", and has authored several
books published by the big Christian publishing houses.
I believe he was president of the Southern Baptist Convention
several years ago.

Dr. Stanley, IMO is one of the giants in the pulpit to our
generation. His ministry has greatly blessed me and my entire
family over the years.
