warning, this is long but i have a hard time telling it shorter.
Well, actually my husband would be considered the rebound man except that he
was just who I needed.

It was spring 1983, second semester of my Freshman year at Millsaps College in
Jackson, MS. The guy I had been dating since the begining of my Senior year in
High School dumped me. He was a freshman at Mississippi College. We always
said
that if we wanted to date other people when we got to college, we would let
each other know rather than feel quilty about "cheating" on each other.

Big dope, he was the one talking marriage then he decided the grass was greener.
Oh, well. Needless to say, I was devistated. Here I had turned down several
dates
because of this guy, now I was alone. I made it through the semester and
ended up going to summer school.

One afternoon in June I was sitting in the lobby of the dorm taking a break
doing cross-stitch (which until I had children, was with reading what I spent
most of my spare time doing). One of my friends (and frat sisters) came in
from work. I "felt" her walk behind me and hesitiate. The following
conversation ensued:

Robin: billie, you broke up with that guy, right?
Me: Robin, I don't do blind dates (somehow I knew that's what she was up to)
Robin: Gees billie, can't i get it out of my mouth. he's a really nice guy.
Me: i don't do blind dates
robin: he's a Lambda Chi
me: so, i still don't do blind dates
robin: he's a lambda chi and he's really nice and just wants to meet someone
nothing heavy, just wants a friend girl
me: sounds like he has you
robin: well, maybe more than just a pal.
me: okay, okay, only if you go to
robin: deal

As it turned out, Robin had to work the night of the "BIG DATE". So Greg and I
planned to go to a movie first then meet the gang later. Well, I had never met
Greg before so I arranged for a couple of mutual friends to introduce us when
he came to pick me up.

The two other girls and I were in the hall on the second floor waiting for me to
be paiged. One of the girls, Sara, was giving me grief which giving grief was
her sole purpose in life. Sara was telling me all the things I didn't want to
hear, "he only talks about sterios, he's dull, he talks about cars etc..."

when I was paiged, I answered "YEESSS", my voice cracked, on the intercom.
(Later greg said that that had him very concerned) The three of us busted out
laughing.

I had the other girl walk with me downstairs and introduce us. I was afraid I
would laugh and he would take it wrong so we were together for over an hour
before I could look at him. Not bad.

We went to see probably the worst movie of that year,"superman III" the one
with Richard Pryor. We ended up spending most of the movie chatting and
getting aquainted.

We met up with about 5 other friends later that evening and went to a dive.
The band looked like 14 year old boys who got guitars for Christmas. More
people danced to MTV during their breaks than when they were playing.

Well, from the stress of worrying about the date, I was very tired. while
we were talking, I ended up leaning on Greg and dozing off. My friends said
that Greg laid his head on mine and dozed off also (he waited tables at a
fancy restraunt at the time and worked till after midnight).

They all agreed that it was a great match and would shoot us if we didn't hit
it off.

We got back to the dorm and sat in his car for a couple of hours talking.

It just felt right. After that first night, there never was that pressure of
"does he like me", "what if i tick him off", it just seemed that we should be
together.

We dated for a year, were engaged for a year and were married in August 1985.

There were things we had work out ( his parents never argued until the year of
there divorce) he had to realize that we could argue and disagree and still
be madly in love.

We think that since we met on a blind date we probably should have eloped. Oh
well.

Since then, we have 2 cats and 2 beautiful sons, Alex (3 yo in 10 days) and
Christopher (4 months). The time just flys.
