FAST TRACK ANNOUNCEMENT uk.people.support.cfs-me
- -----------------------

I have received a request to fast-track the creation of
uk.people.support.cfs-me.

I will do this in FIVE days unless I receive valid complaints by EMAIL.

Complaints will be resolved by the committee (comm...@usenet.org.uk)

For further information on the newsgroup creation process in the UK
please look at http://www.usenet.org.uk.

- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Changes since 2nd RFD

The only on- going discusion is on the *general* matter of "suport" vs
"living-with" vs whatever. I am of the belief that the group should go
under "suport", with others of a similar nature, and that they could be
*collectively* renamed, if people so wish, at a later date. To offer
other options at this point would merely cause further divisions.

Changes since 1st RFD

Change of name from *.me-cfs to *.cfs-me, to reduce confusion if
"M.E." is read as "me", the objective first person.

Revised rationale.

New newsgroup line.

Reference to "Topics not directly relevant to ME/CFS" removed as
superflous and likely to attract spam.

Section on binaries re-written.

Rationale

There is a growing awareness, in the UK and globallly, of Myalgic
Encephalomyelitis (ME) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Existing groups are:

alt.health.cfids-action
alt.health.cfs
alt.med.cfs
alt.med.cfs-chat
alt.med.cfs.info
alt.med.cfs.open
bit.listserv.cfs.newsletter

The term CFIDS is not used in the UK. There is no newsgroup with
ME in its title.

charities within the large body of text in their FAQs, but the
information given is hard to find and out-of-date. The recognition of
the illness, and opinions on treatment and medication can vary widely
between the USA and the UK.

The pursuit of the above information was very tiring for a
person with ME.

The proposed newsgroup allows for contact and discussion amongst
people with ME and discusison of UK- relevant issues. A regular FAQ
will be posted, so that readers can get hold of basic information
quickly and without too much effort.

Newsgroups line:

uk.people.support.cfs-me chronic fatigue / myalgic encephalomyelitis

Charter:
This unmoderated group is for discussion of Myalgic
Encephalomyelitis (ME) / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), and for
the mutual support of sufferers and their carers, in the U.K.

This allows for specific and general discussion of the illness,
support services, treatment, and similar topics, together with
personal concerns where these will interest other readers.

Announcements relevant to ME / CFS are permitted (e.g. forthcoming
meetings, local support group details, charity contacts).

Commercial advertising is forbidden, but readers may post requests
for commercial information to be sent to them via e-mail.

With the exception of PGP signatures, all encoded binaries (eg
pictures, word processor files, .zip files etc), HTML, or similar
non-plaintext postings are *forbidden*; such material should be
placed on a web or FTP server and the URL posted.

Posters to the group are expected to be considerate of other
readers. Personal abuse, flames, and posting of personal
information without permission are forbidden.

Postings are welcome from people outside the U.K. provided they
are relevant to U.K. readers.
