In this message, I ask you to take part in a very important survey about
the stigma of this illness and the current official name, "chronic fatigue
syndrome".
One of the most important issues about this disease is its stigma, which
is experienced in part by rejections from numerous doctors who won't
diagnose or treat the illness, but also is experienced in many other ways
that may disrupt patients' lives severely.
Many patients feel that the stigma can be substantially reduced if the
name "chronic fatigue syndrome" is changed and if that change is
accompanied by a strong educational campaign to educate the public and
medical professionals about this disease.
PLEASE paticipate in the current survey about the name-change issue. It
may help greatly to resolve important aspects of this problem and to bring
about an effective campaign to reduce -- or preferably end -- the stigma
of this illness.
The survey can be viewed on the web at
http://www.cais.net/cfs-news/survey-2.htm
or can be obtained by e-mail by sending a message which says
GET CFS SURVEY-2
to address LIST...@MAELSTROM.STJOHNS.EDU . There is an editorial I've
written about name-change issues which gives some helpful background for
this survey. It can be viewed at http://www.cais.net/cfs-news/myths.htm
or by e-mail send a mesage which says GET CFS NAME-MYTHS to address

Updates about this issue will appear regularly in the CFS-NEWS newsletter,
which focuses on medical issues reagrding CFS and is published every few
weeks. I highly recommend that all CFS patients read CFS-NEWS, which is
available at no charge on the Internet. To get on the free subscription
list, see http://www.cais.net/cfs-news/cfs-news.htm or reply to this
message and I'll see that you get on the list.
I thank you for your attention.
