I bought a JVC cdr-w2022 (2020) on September 2 and it worked great for 3
months. After that time, it started totally screwing up CDs to the point of
having to reboot to open the drive. On a 500mb burn, it would finish 200mb
and then try to close the session, where it would lock up completely. Like I
said, to eject the CD you had to turn the computer OFF and on again. On top
of that, any CD rom drive that accessed the CD locked up (just the drive,
not the computer).
I talked to QPS (the name on the box) and they said it was without a
doubt the tracking. So MICROSHACK, after fighting with me (because they
don't even carry that drive anymore), replaced the drive with the last one
in stock.
That would've been fine, except that drive was jammed shut. Because
Microshack didn't have anymore they said they would have to send it to JVC,
or QPS or whoever. So, I fixed that myself (the safety arm that keeps the
door from popping open while reading/recording was jammed). The first CD
that I made with that drive worked fine, but the second did not.
If anyone has any information on this drive, I would greatly
appreciate your help! email: morr...@tir.com

If not, then I seriously DON"T recomend this to anyone!!!!

Thanks, Tim

Sounds almost like the exact same problem I had with my XR-W2022. I
also bought mine from QPS, and it was a royal pain in the ass to get
any decent service from them. After I shipped my external unit back
to QPS, it took them about two and a half months to send a replacement
drive (after I had made about a dozen phone calls to them). On top of
that, the morons accidentally sent me an internal unit instead of an
external. They promised to send me a kit that would convert my
internal to an external within a week, but surprise surprise it took
them about another month for them to ship it out.

I don't have a problem with the drive itself, though. My replacement
unit (upgraded to the latest firmware v2.05) works great.
