Hello. I recently replaced the AAA cells on my TI-83, and upon powering
up - all I get is a BLACK screen, that is, all pixels activated at full
contrast. At which point NO buttons respond, not even 2nd. -> ON. The
cells are standard Duracell 1.5v Alkaline batts.
I've tried a reset procedure described at mathforum.org, remove one AAA
cell, hold down ON for 30 secs., then power up and adjust contrast:
although this had no effect. My calc is still useless. Please help,
thanks!

Hi ponga-
Have you tried removing the backup battery as well as all 4 AAA
batteries for an extended period of time? I've heard that when all else
fails removing all batteries (inc. the backup) for over 24 hours can
solve certain problems. At this point, it's all the advice I can think
of... you seem to have tried the normal recourses for this sort of
thing.
Good luck!

Thanks Nikky. I had pulled all the batts yesterday, including the
backup, and just fired up the calculator now... but to no avail. Same
symptoms. A shame too. I only have one last class which requires a
graphing calc... just my luck.

If I were to have posted earlier, I would have recommended basically
the same as Nikky, with the added measure of shorting the contacts in
the calculator together to make sure that all capacitors are drained.
But I don't think that would be any more helpful.

(By the way, removing one AAA battery is electrically the same as
removing all of them [they're in series].)

This page has a few ideas that look promising:

So I can refer to call waiting as telecoitus interruptus?
