your requester is RIGHT not to trust Bartlett's. Someone pointed out an
erroroneous attribution in Bartlett's re: Rubaiyat of Omar Kayam [sp?] to me
last week. Bartlett's cited "The Moving Finger" as st. 71, and my
correspondent reported that his R. copy had it as *st. 51*. Proofreading is
a dying art!

I am trying to find out who said "this too shall pass". According to
Bartlett's it was Abraham Lincoln in 1859, however, the person making the
request won't accept that. In addition to Bartlett's, I have already
tried several sites on the Internet to no avail.

I would appreciate help from someone with a larger reference
collection than ours who might have other books of quotations.

Thank you.
