The one that sounds like Hank Williams' "Move it on Over" is a Blind
Blake song. There's also a song the T-Birds recorded called "Diddy Wah
Diddy," but I don't know who wrote it - maybe Willie Dixon.

Depends on which "Diddy Wah Diddy" song you mean. There was also a
different song, "Diddie Wa Diddie" done by Blind Blake in the 20's (when was
the last time that name was bandied about here). Oh no, another "y" versus
"ie" controversy rears its ugly head! :') Very different songs.
The Bo song is credited to him AND Dixon on the Bo Diddley Box set with old
Ellas listed first. It is also listed in Willie Dixon's bio "I Am the
Blues" as a Dixon composition (though I guess that doesn't preclude Bo's
co-authorship). Dixon played bass on Diddley's recording and it is listed
as the first recording of that song in Dixon's book. So I guess the answer
is, they both wrote it and they recorded it together.
Amazing that Diddly did a ditty with "Diddy" in the title. (For those of
you that miss Dick Waterman).

I have Bo Diddley doing "Diddy Wah Diddy" on 45 rpm Checker 832, released
1/56,
with "Dixon" credited as writer. I also have it on Chess lp 1431, as "Diddy
Wah
Diddey" (note the letter "e") with "McDaniels" credited as writer.
I am inclined to believe that the true writer of the song is Willie Dixon.
Checker 832 was the initial release of the song which, musically and
word-wise,
is much different from the songs Bo was writing at that time. Which would
seem
to me to show the true writer's credits.
Also (trivia time), with regard to "Diddy Wah Diddy": What is the name of the
vocal group singing backup for Bo?

It is the name of a place, as Bo sings: "It ain't no town, it ain't no city,
but oh how they love in Diddy Wah Diddy . . . she went right back to Diddy
Wah Diddy."

I know Bo recorded a song of similar title, but i believe the song is older
than the both,
I have it hear somewhere....oh yeah Written by Blind Blake as Diddie wa
diddie
The Bo song is quite different!

Nope, nope, nope. Diddie not diddy. I told you there would be a
diddy/diddie controversy! :')
If Blind Blake didn't know, I doubt anyone here will. Though someone
undoubtedly will tell us they do! :')

Sorry about that, Don. When I wrote that, I was more into Bo than Blind Blake
and I did not read your writing correctly.
I've never heard the Blind Blake song; however, I'd venture to say that both
Diddie and Diddy are related and that they refer to some mythical place.
Bob
Bob,
Here is a bit from the Blind Blake version.
----
Went to church, put my hand on the seat,
Lady sat on it said, "Daddy, you sure is sweet,"
Mister Diddie Wa Diddie,
Mister Diddie Wa Diddie,
I wish somebody would tell me what Diddie Wa Diddie means
Then I got put out of church,
'Cause I talk about Diddie Wa Diddie too much,
Mister Diddie Wa Diddie,
Mister Diddie Wa Diddie,
I wish somebody would tell me what Diddie Wa Diddie means
