Surprise! It seems not all Jewish people are doctors
and lawyers after all! These influential artists and
promoters realized at some point they had a very
different calling. Since you all contributed please
enjoy as my gift to you.
JEWISH BLUES GREATS. Article still to follow.
How many actually come from an orthodox background?
Your help is appreciated.

Yo....you're list just ain't kosher kid. Jack Lord, Sammy Davis Jr, Jack
Elliot and a few others on your list might be Jewish, but I'd (or anyone who
knows the genre at all) be hard pressed to call them lesser blues men, much
less GREATS. chuck

And the Paul Oscher listing (see my previous question / comment) may not be
correct, either, and neither was the spelling.

Frankly, I wonder if such lists ultimately are not divisive amd sort of
pointless (beyond -maybe- some ethnic pride) given the amount of ink and
bandwidth spent on related minefields like whites and blacks in the blues.

I don't believe Butterfield was Jewish. Don't forget Art Hodes
and Erwin Helfer.

Jeez, this list again. Anyway, Paul Butterfield never was "Butterfeld."
From what I recall from that mult-part biography published in Blues Access
several years ago by Tom Ellis, "Butter" hailed from Irish stock - of upper-
middle class parents, no less. But I'm not sure of the details.
