WAYNE - On Sunday, December 6th, the annual SNOWBALL will be held at The
Lakeside Pub, located on Packanack Lake at 58 Lake Drive West in Wayne, NJ
from 3 pm until approximately 8 pm. This is a grass roots event that was
started in the early nineties by a group of friends who began collecting toys
for underprivileged children and raising money for various local charities.
The event is produced in conjunction with the United Jersey Blues
Network and the Paterson Firefighters Association. The toys are personally
distributed by Paterson firemen.

This year’s show will kick off with an acoustic performance by Dan “Doc”
Lane, a cofounder and current member of the Papa Hoodoo Medicine Show. Dan
has shared the stage with such noted rock and blues artists as The Outlaws,
The Marshall Tucker Band, Hubert Sumlin, Honey Boy Edwards, Louisiana Red,
Rick Danko, Jorma Kaukonen, and John Hammond.

The bill also includes a set by The Crescent City Maulers, a hard-driving
band that has been exciting audiences for over 10 years, combining rhythm
and blues, jump, and swing. The Maulers gained national attention in 1996
with the release of Screamin’ and were subsequently hired as the house band
for USA Network’s “Up All Nite” with Gilbert Gottfried. They also appeared
on USA’s tribute to Jim Carrey. They have performed and shared the stage
with New Orleans legend Dr. John, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Cherry Poppin
’ Daddies, Buckwheat Zydeco, and Sonny Landreth, among others.

The final set will feature alt-rockers Someone Say Something, a five-piece
band from Livingston. These local favorites won several major tri-state
talent competitions that landed them slots on the Bamboozle Festival and the
Warped Tour opening for national acts such as Linkin Park, My Chemical
Romance, and Paramore. They recently headlined a showcase at New York’s CMJ
Music & Film Festival, and their music has been placed on national TV, local
radio stations, and in 1900 movie theaters nationwide.

This event is open to the public and there is no cover charge. Instead,
patrons are asked to bring an unwrapped gift for a child between the ages of 3
and 12. Cash donations will be accepted in lieu of (or in addition to) a
gift, and all funds collected will be forwarded to The Samantha Fund, a
501(c)(3) charity which provides financial support to New Jersey families with
costly medical bills incurred from a child who has been diagnosed with a
life altering illness. The fund also provides assistance to families after a
parent has passed away, leaving behind children and a spouse in need of
financial stability. In addition, the fund supports other NJ charitable
organizations, chapters, memorial funds and foundations such as Operation
Holiday, Special Olympics, and the AIDS Resource for Children.
