Hi all ! Does anyone have any detailed information about the songs and
recording sessions of Louis Jordan. I'm a 24 year old in Delaware who absolutes
LOVES his music. Unfortunately, there's not much info on him on the 'Net.
Please email me if you can help.

Thanks,

There is a bio by the name of Let the Good Times Roll which I believe lists
all of his recordings and full information is in various discographies.

There's a song in the movie Blast from the Past, which I think was called
Mr. Zoot Suit. This is really a great song. Anybody know who does it?

My man,
You need to get ahold of two items to satisfy your
need for Louis Jordan.

One, the definitive biography of Louis Jordan, Let
the Good Times Roll, by John Chilton. Hardcover
published by University of Michigan Press in 1994
(originally published in the UK in 1992). Paperback
reprint published by University of Michigan in
1997. However, that bio does NOT contain a
comprehensive discography with detailed session info
-- it contains a discography but not a detailed one
(at least the hardcover version that I have
doesn't).

Second, the definitive collection of all of Louis
Jordan's Decca recordings, a 9-CD set that comes
with a booklet that includes a complete discography
with all the detailed session info. The box set is
called - not surprisingly - Let the Good Times Roll,
and it's put out by the remarkable Bear Family of
Germany. It is not cheap. I see that
http://www.cdconnection.com is listing it for about
$150. You might be able to get it for even less
from http://www.bluebeat.com or from a guy who
calls himself "The Wolf" --
mailto:the...@cdwolf.com.
