New Orleans-born tenor saxophonist Fred Kemp died Friday, June 06/1997,
New Orleans, LA., at age 55. Frederic Donald Kemp was a long time member of
the Fats Domino band, and recorded extensively for Allen Richard Toussaint,
especially behind Irma Thomas & Lee Dorsey. He also played with Johnny Adams,
Dave Bartholomew, Eddie Bo, Charles Brown, Chuck Carbo (on "The Barber's Blues"
CD), Davell Crawford, Dr. John (on "Goin' Back To New Orleans" CD),
The Neville Brothers (on "Brother's Keeper" CD), Treme Brass Band (on "Gimme
My Money Back" CD) and Marva Wright. He also played piano and flute, and
operated Kemp Lounge, where his jazz quartet often performed. His traditional
N.O. funeral was held on June 11, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

He was survived by his wife, Willie Lean Barker Kemp; two daughters,
Daphne Ann Williams and Antoinette Pratcher; his mother, Victoria K.
Clauson; his stepfather, Yeager A. Clauson; a brother, Dorn Kemp Jr.; his
grandmother, Ophelia C. Amacker of Franklinton; and four grandchildren.
