Hello Bluezrs
My son wishes to make a Blues cd with songs about women with the names in the title and I was stumped
so I am "enlisting the list" for help. My pathetic attempt starts with:

1 "Alberta" by Blues Project, 1968? unknown author, no background as to who she was and why she was immortalized

"Caldonia" - done by B.B. King, Louis Jordan and no doubt others.

And, dare I say it, "Mustang Sally". [g]

A few off the top of my head:

"Fannie Mae" by Buster Brown
"Louise" by Howlin' Wolf (also title of a different song by Mississippi
Fred McDowell)
"Caldonia" by Louis Jordan
"Sadie" by Hound Dog Taylor
"Delia's Gone" (an old folk-blues)
BB King recorded one or more songs with "Lucille" in the title
(referring of course to his guitar)
"I Love Lucy" by Albert King (naming his guitar Lucy)
"Frankie & Johnny" (an old folk-blues) (sometimes as "Frankie & Albert")
"Roberta" (there's one with this title by Cephas & Wiggins, I believe
there are others as well, might be one by Leadbelly)
"Fanny Brown" ("I Want My Fanny Brown") by Roy Brown
"Corrine Corrina" (old folk-blues, by Mississippi Sheiks and possibly
others)
all the "Annie" songs "Work with Me Annie" "Annie Had a Baby" etc by
Hank Ballard & the Midnighters

many more, I'm sure ....

And of course there's "Louise" by Johnny Temple, covered by many, many
people including Big Bill.

Leadbelly recorded several versions of "Roberta."

Willie McTell recorded a very nice version of "Delia," which is more of
a ballad.

"Maggie Campbell"--Tommy Johnson
"Black Mattie"--Sleepy John Estes
"Betty and Dupree"--originally recorded by Willie Walker in the 20s,
covered by the entire population of the known world. OK, there's a
man's name in there. <g>
"Crow Jane"--really a generic term and not a name, recorded many times
in the 20s and 30s
"Katey Mae"--Tommy McClennan. He did a couple of other woman's name
titles too.
"Katie May"--Lightnin' Hopkins, "walks like she's got oil wells in her
back yard"

Hey, There's always the old Memphis Slim classic "If You See Kay" suitable for all ages 'cause there's not a

dirty word in the entire song (only in your mind!).

"Sadie" by Son Seals, from his "Nothing But The Truth" recording on Alligator Records, kicks butt.

I have a Muddy cd with "Rosalie" on it. Snooks Eaglin did "Lilly Mae",
"Josephine", and "Juanita" that I can remember...probably others in his
repertoire.

"Tanya" - both Earl Hooker's and Lockwood's versions are great.
