I haven't seen many comments about Larry Garner lately so I figured I
throw in a few disjointed ones of my own. His show at the Bradfordville
Blues Club was a bit sparsely attended but those who were there were
treated to a top notch performance and gave him a standing ovation at
the end of the night. He still has Deacon on bass and Westside on second
guitar but has added Brian Morris form Mobile, AL (I think I got that
right) on drums. Larry said he was the son of the famous Joe Morris but
I'm not sure which Joe Morris he was talking about. He seemed a bit
young to be the son of the jazz trumpeter but maybe not. I did hear that
Larry has a new CD about to be released.

Jared Daigle use to be his guitar player - I enjoy him as well..

That may have been the second guitar player's name, all I could remember
was Larry calling him Westside. Heck, after all these years I still
don't know Deacon's real name!

Speaking of Larry's sidemen, whatever happened to his old harp player,
Wabi? He out a CD a few years back but I haven't heard anything since.

Speaking of Larry Garner...
Funny story from our Baton Rouge benefit jam Tuesday night.
Larry came in to just hang out (due to legallities we couldn't promote
Larry as playing that night) and somehow he ended up being invited to
perform with James Johnson & Oscar "Harpo" Davis (I don't know who
else was on stage at the time)
At one point during their set, Larry asked James how he did some note.
Depending on who you asked in the audience at the time, observers
thought that Larry was interogating James, James was interogating
Larry, or what actually happened (as told by James to me and several
others the following day) that Larry had just wanted James to explain
how he did some note (in James telling the story, he exagerates his
right arm hitting an air guitar string and said "BOING!")
James's last comment (in a bemused voice) on it was that, "Larry's
been around the world, what does he need to learn anymore?"

So if you weren't in Baton Rouge, look at what you missed. :-P
