I just received this.

Dear Eric,

My friend and fellow singer/ piano player/organist Ronnie Barron passed
away today, here in Southern CA. He made some good records over the
years, and even got some movie character acting parts as well. Ronnie
was another underated, underpaid, very talented R&B song writer and
performer. He was only 53 years old. He had a very debilitating stroke
a few years ago which left him partially paralyzed. Ronnie also was the
recipient of a heart transplant, which I believe, did extend his life
several more years. We'll all miss him greatly.

There may be some sort of benefit/memorial concert planned soon, here in
the L.A. area. Ronnie is survived by his wife and (her) son and
daughter. I'll supply more details when they're available.

Thanks,
Fred Kaplan

What a great keyboardist he was. I understand that Mac Rebennack
initially developed the Dr. John persona for Barron, and, for some
reason, ultimately adopted it himself. I have an old Ace LP with
several Rebennack/Barron efforts that are wonderfully exuberant.

Ronnie Barron was absolutely one of the very best. Listen to his
work on Paul Butterfield's Better Days. His piano playing in my opinion
was a lot of what made that record so special. "Highway 28" and
"Buried Alive in the Blues" are two of my favorites that come
to mind.

It would sure be nice if great musicians like Ronnie could get the
true recognition that they deserve while they are still around.

The organ riff he played on Big Chief on Dr. John's Gumbo album was
pretty spectacular, too.

Barron also had an amazing voice, incredable range, intense feeling...
It's very sad... Does anyone know of any work: ie; albums that he did on
his own? does any one have a discography?

Thanks, Wade
