Richie Dell was my music instructor and next door neighbor, friend and mentor;
I hung out with her son who was a great sax player, did some gigs with Cream.
Richie Dell also had formed a group with her children and had a number one hit
during the late fifties and early sixties...

Speaking of unheralded Texas Tenor players, did you happen to know Don
Wilkerson? He's passed on I think, but he did play on some Ray Charles
records (and on some late 40s sessions that escape me at the moment). chuck

There's a great bio of Archia (last updated November 11, 2001) at

I want to thank you for this link...some of the information I was familiar with
from talking to Richie Dell, and I knew some of the guys.

I just talked to Richie Dell's surving daughter and she wants me to come over
and bring the information about her uncle Tom Archia. She's a vocalist, and her
now deceased sister was Anita Moore of the Duke Ellington band.

I visited Richie Dell several years ago but her daughter was in New York on a
gig and I look forward to visiting with her and sharing the link info.

Thanks again,

DJ

A friend of mine ended up in the same unit of TDC as Don. They were brought
together
by their common love of music--and he wrote
saying that Don was the coolest cat there. chuck
