Little Walter was part of the European tour of the American Folk
Blues Fest in 1967 shortly before he died. Does anyone know if the
German TV show (that recorded the 1964 and 1965 shows) recorded the 1967
show that included Little Walter??

Really?!?
Are you referring to the German "Ohne Filter" series?
If so, and if Little Walter's TV show has been released, do you know where it can be found? If it's out there, I'd sure like to add it to my catalog!!

Gypsy,
I just found out from HB that it's the same one as the video with Hound Dog Taylor. (2 songs with Little Walter are on it). Of course it's great,
but there just isn't enough footage with Little Walter.

The one that's out there (which is the only LW TV performance that has been
discovered so far) is actually from Danish National Television. It was shot
in Copenhagen in 1967, and aired in 1968 as a special called "Blues '68".

It's available for licensing at www.historicfilms.com, along with tons of
other great blues footage.

I have also read that it was actually filmed in a Netherlands studio on
October 17, 1967 in Hilversum and shown later that year.
Scott, I checked out that website and saw some incredible things
there.....Jimmy Reed, Magic Sam, Johnny Littlejohn, Howlin Wolf, Little
Walter........wow !! Thanks for sharing.
But who can afford 500.00 to "borrow" one of those videos???? Although maybe
someone like Mark Hoffman, who is writing the Howlin Wolf book, might be
interested in all that Wolf footage.

I was amazed by the first listing I saw. Here's the blurb:

SAM LAY BLUES COLLECTION

Legendary drummer (Howlin' Wolf Band, Paul Butterfield, Jimmy Reed, Bob
Dylan) Sam Lay began filming the night life in Chicago's South Side Blues
Bars, Lounges, and Night Clubs in the late 1950's. All through the 60's
Sam's camera captured the Blues world more intimately than any film maker
was able to. Blues legends such as MUDDY WATERS, HOWLIN' WOLF, LITTLE
WALTER, SONNY LAND SLIM, JIMMY REED and countless others are filmed on the
bandstand and hanging out with their friends at nightclubs. A truly
amazing, one-of-a-kind document of Afro-American nightclubs and music from
the late 50's to 1970. When the legendary Blues artist performed in bars,
not concert halls!

I checked out the link and found 3 tapes with Little Walter, 2 of which have performances -- fascinating stuff there, that's for certain!! But man-oh-man, who can afford it?!?

No, that was a different TV appearance, tapes of which have not yet been
found. That would be a real find, because Little Walter *did* front the
band for a few numbers on that program, unlike the Copenhagen program that
is now circulating.

In researching the Little Walter biography, my collaborators (Tony Glover
and Ward Gaines) and I discovered specific documentation of at least five
different TV tapings / filmings (as opposed to live TV appearances) during
Little Walter's trips to Europe in 1964 and 1967. Of those, only the
Copenhagen tape has been found.
